IT IS FINISHED
This electrifying statement is recorded in John 19:30.

Who was this man who made that declaration?
John says in John 1:1-3 that this was Jesus, the Christ. In verses 29 and 36 he said plainly, "Behold the Lamb of God", referring to Jesus.
What did he mean by the "Lamb of God"?
In the early Jewish economy when God brought the Children of Israel out of Egyptian slavery, He had them build a sanctuary in the wilderness to teach them about himself. Exodus 25:8. Read about this structure there. In the service of that sanctuary the central point was the sacrifice that was brought by the sinner to offer for his sins. If the person was one of importance his sacrifice would be more costly. In the case of a common person, the sacrifice would be a lamb. The Lamb of God! The Godhead had made provision for the entrance of sin. They did not ordain it but they for knew its entrance into the world. Satan was once a featured angel in heaven but he fell from his place through pride. ( Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28:12-19) and became God's accuser before all the creation of God. His complaint "God is unfair. His law is unfair. Nobody can keep it!" God sent His Son to this earth to live a life just like any other man to prove that any man, when he accepts the leading of the Lord Jesus into his heart, may live a life according to God's plan.
Because "All have sinned" (Romans 3:23) and Romans 6:23 says "The wages of sin is death", this is all that we have to look forward to, death! But Jesus Christ came and became our substitute, taking our place as a sinner and died in our place. Praise the Lord! This is why John called Christ"The Lamb of God." This entrance of Christ into the world as a man and His work here for him was, in a nut shell, the plan of salvation. When He died on the cross that phase of the plan was finished. The Son of God had done what He came to do. Man's redemption was secure. Let us consider: Christ was treated as we deserve, that we might be treated as He deserved. He suffered the death which was ours, that we might receive the life which was His! The life and death and life evermore, that is Christs. He offers to us freely. Let us determine to accept this gift and live with Him 1 John 1:7
